The pandemic may be over, but remote work may become a part of work life in New Jersey. Recently released Census data showed that more than 1 in 5 Garden State residents worked from home in 2021.
New Jersey ranked 8th last year in the U.S. for remote workers. Remote work is expected to remain high this year as well and is unlikely to see a big swing in the other direction, according to Adam Ozimek, chief economist at the Economic Innovation Group, who co-authored a study on shifting office habits.
“I think it’s declined a little bit, but it hasn’t gone back to normal because people are embracing remote work for the long run,” Ozimek said. “If you ask employers how often are you planning to let people work from home after the pandemic is fully over, employers are planning for an average 2.4 days per week remote.”
